Our 2-year Commercial and Procurement Graduate Scheme allows you to explore how we deliver economic, efficient, and effective commercial solutions to Britain’s railways. Through rotational placements across our teams, you’ll work on important projects, learning about the end-to-end procurement process whilst playing an active role.

Our 2024 Commercial and Procurement Graduate Scheme is now closed for applications. You can register your interest for our 2025 programme below.

Salary: £32,000 plus a £2,000 welcome bonus

Start date: September 2025

What you’ll be doing

The contracts and procurement functions are responsible for sourcing and buying all goods, works, and services for Network Rail.

You’ll carry out rotational placements in different commercial and procurement teams, with the opportunity to work on important, playing an active role throughout each stage. Depending on the stage of the procurement process, you could be drafting governance documents or awarding contracts to suppliers, agreeing and evaluating contracts against tender specifications, or negotiating with suppliers on pricing, contract and payment considerations.

You will develop an in-depth understanding of the supply base in a particular area, through market research and engagement, to make informed strategic recommendations.

Who you are matters

You’ll need to have at least a 2:2 in any degree subject.

We’re looking for a team player with commercial focus and the ability to liaise with stakeholders of all levels. You should have great communication skills, with the ability to build out your negotiation skills. Experience of using Oracle and Bravo would also be useful.

What you’ll get out of it

You’ll be able to tailor your placements based on your interests and search for your own opportunities. Your placements will help you to gain a better understanding of how the business functions.

During the scheme, you’ll work towards a Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Level 4 qualification.

Previous Graduates have progressed into roles such as Sourcing Specialist or Supplier Contract Specialist.
