Level 4 Project Management Apprenticeship

Our Level 4 Project Management Apprenticeship offers you the opportunity to gain practical knowledge into a Project Manager’s responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of projects.

The apprenticeship is designed to develop your understanding on delivering projects in line with defined objectives and taking decisions to manage stakeholder expectations by leading a multi-skilled, cross-disciplinary team to deliver the project to time, cost and quality requirements.

Level 4 Project Management Apprenticeship

What you'll be doing

As part of the scheme, you will be balancing part-time university study with practical experience.

You will be involved in all aspects of the Project Management process, applying appropriate governance and project management methods and techniques to initiate and execute projects to meet strategic objectives. You will gain an appreciation of programme management techniques and an understanding of how projects are managed within a larger programme.

This apprenticeship typically takes 24 months to complete. You will develop a work-based e-portfolio via a combination of workplace experience and one-to-one support in the workplace. Monthly workshops will also take place. After completion of the apprenticeship programme, you will have to skills and experience to become a project management assistant in Network Rail.

To widen your skillset in as many areas as possible, you may have the opportunity to take part in planned rotations across several different functions while ongoing your formal training with the university, as well as training by the team you are placed in to help you develop the skills needed for a career with Network Rail.

You will generally work Monday to Friday but may find yourself working in a shift pattern, travelling to various sites, and working across a mix of weather conditions whilst always having the health and safety of your colleagues at the forefront of your mind.

Apprentices may become student members of the Association for Project Management (APM) as the first step of professional membership. Apprentices will be eligible for progression to associate membership upon successful completion of the apprenticeship. Full membership can be attained through further experience and professional development.
