What you’ll be doing

This is an alternative route to full time University. You’ll study part-time at one of Network Rail’s partnered Universities towards a BSc (Hons). Putting your university-learned theory into practice, you’ll hone your current IT skills and learn new ones.

As part of our IT Apprentice Academy, you’ll gain vast and varied exposure. From implementing cutting-edge, innovative technologies and applications in our Digital Factory, to supporting the delivery of a significant business change initiative or working in our Telecommunications, Information Security or IT Operations teams. You’ll be able to learn what it means to be a Network Engineer, Project Manager, Business Analyst or Information Security Analyst.

Who you are matters

You’ll need to have achieved 5 GCSEs Grade 9-5 (including Mathematics and English) and 3 A-Levels at Grades BCC (or 104 UCAS points equivalent), which should include 1 STEM subject. Fascinated by Telecommunications, Network Engineering, or Information Security and passionate about IT, you’ll be keen to get practical hands-on experience based on the theory you’ve learned so far. Possessing strong attention to detail, you’ll enjoy working as part of an innovative team and getting into the nitty gritty of how telecommunications enables us to connect with people, across the internet, make phone calls and share data across the world. With a flair for coming up with creative solutions, you’ll be highly organised, a logical thinker and confident communicating and presenting your ideas to others.
